Mayra Liliana Quezada, Psy.D.

Background: Welcome! I’m a Southern California Chicana living and working in the Bay Area. I have been fascinated with the intersection of psychology and culture from an early age. This interest propelled me to pursue my doctorate degree in clinical-community psychology specifically because of its focus on the way a person’s various identities intersect within their lives and the therapy room. I know what it’s like to not always be represented in the “mainstream” approach to psychology and mental health, and I will not take for granted your own unique experiences and identities in regards to mental health and therapy.

Practice: I work with adults and adolescents using a combination of CBT and ACT, two forms of therapy that research has shown are very effective for creating lasting change. Despite my foundations in cognitive behavioral therapy, I do not ascribe to a “one size fits all” method of psychotherapy. I use my training in various therapeutic modalities including feminist therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing to find the best approach to help you with your concerns. Many people I have worked with have found it helpful to examine the reasons behind their negative thoughts and emotions, and we will also explore the actions you can take to promote wellness and tranquility.

I provide services in English and Spanish.

Additional Training and Specializations:

  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy: I worked and trained at the Puerto Rico Veterans Health Administration helping veterans who experienced traumatic events.

  • Psychological Evaluations: Throughout my practice, I have administered multiple psychological and forensic assessments to evaluate cognitive functioning, psychopathology, and personality traits.

  • Sex therapy: I have taken advanced coursework and training in the area of human sexuality with a focus on non-binary, LGBTQI+ and multicultural sexual issues.

Professional Certifications:

  • California Licensed Psychologist, #PSY31202

  • Certification in Sex Therapy

  • Certification in Level One Gottman Couples Therapy

Education:

  • B.A. in Psychology, UCLA

  • M.S. in Psychology, University of La Verne

  • Psy.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology, University of La Verne
